Fitchett Family

Family Origins

The FITCHETT surname has occurred sporadically in England and Scotland for the past millennium. In the late 16th century, this changed with the appearance of two clusters, with a group of FITCHETs near Montrose in Scotland, and another group of FITCHETTs near the mouth of the Trent River in North Lincolnshire, England. (FITCHETTs arrived in the Americas in the early 17th century from Holland, of Huguenot descent.) Over the following two centuries, the Trent River group migrated up-river to become centered in Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

And, today

Today there appears to be a number of distinct FITCHETT family groups in the Derbyshire and Leicestershire area of England, and so far a genealogical connection between these has not been able to be demonstrated.

This site is focusing upon the genealogy of the Fitchett Family from the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire area of England with particular reference to the family that emigrated to Australia and New Zealand.
